The Private Equity Trailblazer Award honors pioneering women who have paved the way for their peers in the industry. The award was created by the Falk Marques Group in 2012 and is presented annually at the Women's Private Equity Summit. We are proud to be associated with such dynamic and accomplished mentors and role models.

We are pleased to introduce you to the 2021 Trailblazer Honoree, Sue Toigo. Sue is the chairman of Fitzgibbon Toigo & Co. providing access for emerging and established investment managers to the global institutional investment community.  She is also the founder of Goldmine Consulting providing pro bono career and business development counsel to minority and women investment professionals.

Sue co-founded the Institute for Fiduciary Education (IFE) in 1985 to provide investment education through week-long global seminars for over 3,000 fund sponsors and consultants. A life-long advocate for inclusion in education, employment, and finance, Sue spent 16 years as the lobbyist for the California Children’s Lobby and 14 years on the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers. She has served as a visiting Woodrow Wilson Fellow at universities in Texas, Nebraska, and Indiana, and spoken on behalf of the U.S. State Department in Australia, New Zealand, Syria, and Chile.

Her focus on diversity led to the creation of the Robert Toigo Foundation in 1989 to help change the face of finance through leadership support of minority professionals throughout their investment careers. The program serves 200 minority MBA candidates each year at 20 top US business schools and over 1,800 alumni leaders in the global financial services industry.

A graduate with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, she has been inducted into the Berkeley Women’s Hall of Fame for founding and directing the U.C. Berkeley Child and Infant Care Centers. Sue is married to Ambassador Derek Shearer who teaches foreign policy at Occidental College.
