Renata Quintini of Renegade Partners
Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Renegade Partners
We are pleased to introduce you to Renata Quintini, co-founder and managing partner at Renegade Partners.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I am restlessly creative. I love understanding how things work so I can transform them, put my own spin on them. My first playground was tinkering with music. Instead of taking “piano” or “guitar” lessons, I learned jazz theory. I wanted to understand the algorithm of music — relationship of the notes, rhythms, scales and chords, etc. – such that I could pick up instruments like they were a fun challenge. I still do (my latest adventure is picking up drums)!
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
To build a firm from scratch with a team that I adore and have tremendous respect for. The returns from the portfolios we build will be a result of the decisions we make. We are very deliberate about our culture and about how we work together – we joke we want to be the Golden State Warriors of venture. This alignment allows us to focus all of our energy on serving our portfolio founders and LPs. All hands on deck, full steam ahead.
Have you ever had something happen to you at work where you thought, I couldn’t make this up if I tried?
My co-founder Roseanne Wincek is female. We have collaborated for a decade before starting Renegade and her track record as an outstanding investor and board member is widely known. During fundraising for our Fund I we had LPs ask us point blank if we were “worried about cattiness.”
If you could have coffee with one business disruptor—past or present—who would it be?
Martine Rothblatt. She is the Leonardo da Vinci of our time! Her curiosity, intellect and love allowed her to push the boundaries of what’s possible in many fields: she created the satellite radio startup (that became SiriusXM), learned biology and founded United Therapeutics to save her daughter who suffered from a rare lung disease, invented an electric helicopter that holds the record for distance and speed. She is now working on technology to deliver an unlimited supply of transplantable organs. Martine also pushed the boundaries of her own biology: she was born male and went through sexual reassignment surgery over two decades ago.
