Jennifer Magaña of WLD Enterprises
LP Rising Star Winner and Director of Private Markets at WLD Enterprises
We are pleased to introduce you to Jennifer Magaña, director of private markets at WLD Enterprises.
Tell us a bit about yourself…
I am the Director of Private Markets at WLD Enterprises, Inc., a single-family office based in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and have over 10 years of experience investing in private markets including venture capital, growth equity, buyouts, real assets, and niche lending strategies spanning across primary funds, direct, and co-investments. I have served two terms on the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) Board of Directors and currently serve on the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council. I am a member of PEWIN and on the South Florida Steering Committee of WAVE.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
One of the most rewarding parts of my job is the intellectual stimulation that comes with it. It is exciting to cover and invest in many different private market strategies. It is a dynamic environment, and I am always learning something new and being intellectually challenged. Another rewarding part is the relationships I have built along the way with both LPs and GPs. We are long term investors and I have been able to forge many meaningful relationships over the years.
What do you love most about working at WLD Enterprises, Inc.?
I love the entrepreneurial spirit and the long-term investment perspective of working for a family office. WLD Enterprises, Inc. was established in the 1980s, which is also when the family office began investing in private markets. This long-term investment horizon, the efficient nature of a family office, and the experience of having invested through many market cycles offers much insight and has been invaluable from a learning perspective and in building out the sophisticated investment program that exists today.
What’s the most amazing place you’ve visited that you urge everyone to see (once everyone starts traveling again!)?
Of all the great cities I have been to, I still find myself in greatest awe in the natural world. My family and I enjoy scuba diving and rock climbing and we try to fit one of the two in on any trip we take. Since these two activities can take you quite off the beaten path, I think they fuel a healthy level of curiosity and exploration of nature certainly offers unique perspectives. If I had to pick a favorite place though, it would be Iceland in the winter to view the northern lights.
